The domain St-Pierre d'Escarvaillac : Art and Wine PDF Print E-mail

The domaine Saint-Pierre d'Escarvaillac, a farm and winery formerly owned by the Chartreuse de Bonpas, produces A.O.C. Côtes-du-Rhône wines.  The origins of the domaine and its name, both of which can be traced to the XIIth century, are related to the existence of an older romanesque chapel.  Preserved romanesque architecture is still predominant at the domaine.  The vinification vats are made of cut stone and the space which was once the stables has high vaulted stone ceilings.  Located near the Southern border of the appellation, the wines of Saint-Pierre are thick with color and aroma.  The vines surrouding the domaine are thirty years old on average, though certain plots were planted over seventy years ago and are still producing excellent grapes.

Since the summer of 2007 the domain has offered artists a space to create and expose their works.  Exhibitions of contemporary paintings, concerts, and pieces of theater have been organized in a hall with vaulted ceilings and romanesque architecture.  In that the domaine is located within the municipality of Avignon, we have wanted to include it in the theater festival which goes on here during the month of July.

In the form of an association, the  domaine has engaged in active partnerships with artists - plastic artists, musicians, and theater companies.  In July 2008, an varied program will bring plastic arts, music, danse, theater, and cinema together for special moments which we hope to share with you.  A detailed program can be found in the program of the Festival OFF or in Artistic Events.

Exhibit of the works of two contemporary painters.  Jean-Christophe Philippi and Kawashima, one French, the other Japonese, both are experienced, passionate and assiduous in their gests.  Neither is tied to a particular current of thought, though they share a taste for secret and revelation.  Risk is their common denominator, the risk of light.
